Adoption Process
The first step is to look at the available kittens and cats and if you see any that interest you, email or text me. My phone does not ring for unknown numbers so the fastest way to get a response is to text. I am happy to answer any questions that you may have, in addition to setting up a FaceTime/Video Chat session so that you can meet the kittens. For our safety, we never have people in and out of our home. However, it is possible to schedule a meet & greet at a near by location, if you really want to meet one or more in person for a $25 fee. If you don't see your dream kitten available at this time, you can put down a $600 deposit and go on the waitlist. If you are number one on the waitlist, you will get first choice of every litter at six weeks old, to choose your exact designer Maine Coon kitten of your dreams. Then the person at waitlist number two does, and will move up on the list once number one chooses theirs. We know everyone has a favorite color or features and our goal is to find those perfect matches for each of our kittens!
Once you Choose Your Kitten
We recommend that you thoroughly read through our contract and make sure that you understand the process and are familiar with what to expect. Kittens can not be reserved until the turn 6 weeks old. At that time, those on the waitlist get first choice. Then anyone else can reserve a specific kitten by paying a $600 deposit. Kittens will not be held until a deposit is cleared. Payments can be made through Zelle, PayPal, Cash App., Venmo, etc. The deposits are nonrefundable, however they are fully transferrable to any other available kitten, now or in the near future, IF any medical issues are found at their 8 week old health exam in the kitten that you chose. This is extremely unlikely to happen, but we like to make that clear up front for your peace of mind. A deposit will hold your kitten until they have received and recovered from their 8 week vaccinations & clear a full health check. Additional charges may apply if you need us to keep your kitten much longer.
Before your kitten adoption is finalized, we suggest making a veterinary appointment for that first week that you will have the kitten. Likely no vaccines will be needed at this time, but a check up is important. Kittens can get stressed easily in new situations such as moving to a new home and kitty colds can happen. We also recommend purchasing a few items in advance such as a litter box and litter, kitten food (canned or raw meat diet & dry kibble), a cat tree with a scratching post, toys, ear cleaning wipes, and a few supplements to boost their immune systems during this transition.
We also suggest kitten proofing a little around your home. Secure up any hanging cords or wires that they might be tempted to chew on. Make sure any house plants that they can get to are not poisonous to them. And decide on a quiet room that you would like to introduce to them first. This is a space free from loud noises and allows them to adjust to their new home in a calm quiet environment. A bedroom is great. Make sure that their food and water are easy to find along with a litter box. As they get more secure and confident, you will know they are ready to further explore your home.
Be prepared for their daily care. Maine Coons are highly self-sufficient however, they will need a light combing especially in the spring when they start to lose their mane and winter undercoat. They will also need their ears cleaned regularly and they can be finicky about using a litter box that isn't regularly cleaned. Water dishes need to be washed daily as their saliva has bacteria that is left behind when they drink which is unhealthy for them. As far as food, protein is the most important thing. Unlike dogs, cats are meant to only eat meat. The best diet for them is an all raw meat diet. You can order this premade through "Smalls" and other brands or make it yourself. (Google search Maine Coon Raw Meat Recipe and several will pop up.) They can't be over fed as growing kittens. I suggest having fresh water and dry kibble out and available at all times. I then feed my cats in the morning and again at night, their raw meat or canned food. This should only be left out until they walk away.
Lastly, Maine Coons are extremely smart and curious. Keeping their minds stimulated, especially during the first couple of years, is very important. They will turn to things you would consider mischievous out of boredom and curiosity if you don't, so playing and interacting with your kitten is wonderful and necessary. A wand toy is perfect for this. I never suggest playing with them using your hands because they get very large and can hurt you unintentionally if you encourage this behaviour. Hands should be for petting and affection only. In addition, adding some treat puzzles can be fun for them. These can also be purchased on amazon or found at a pet store. Maine Coons are highly food motivated and smart so they can be trained easily to do all kinds of tricks!
Once you have prepared for your kitten, all that is left is to schedule your pick-up time. (Refer to the Delivery & Pick-Up Option tab above for more information on this.) Final payment of the balance owed is due at the time of adoption. I accept cash, Zelle, PayPal, Cash App, Venmo, etc. You will then receive a copy of your contract, your transfer of ownership registration paperwork for their pedigree, all vet paperwork, and your new family member!!
